Autumn Care of Madison topped list of Madison County nursing homes in Q1

During the opening quarter of 2026, Autumn Care of Madison emerged as Madison County’s largest nursing home, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The facility operated 92 available beds, surpassing the Madison County average for the same period by 26 beds. On average, staff cared for 79 residents during the quarter.

The CMS awarded Autumn Care of Madison an overall score of 3 out of 5, matching Virginia’s average rating for nursing homes.

Mountain View Nursing Home ranked as Madison County’s second-largest facility in the first quarter, maintaining 40 beds.

Autumn Care of Madison reported no fines or penalties during the period ending in the first quarter of 2026.

There was only one for-profit nursing home in Madison County, Virginia, during the first quarter of 2026.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the country’s population of older adults is increasing as numbers among younger groups decline. Between 2020 and 2024, individuals age 65 and over grew by 13%, while the population under age 18 decreased by 1.7%. In the past 100 years, the nation’s older adult segment has expanded significantly, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 study indicates that close to half of Americans in this age bracket, about 28 million people, may need long-term care and assistance. The study also estimates that more than a third could require a nursing home stay at some point.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
