Cedars Healthcare Center earned an overall rating of 2 out of 5 for the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported. This falls below Virginia’s nursing home average of 3.0 for the same period.
The facility offered 141 beds, which is 28 more than the typical Virginia nursing home as of early 2026. The center maintained an average of 128.1 residents each day during that timeframe.
Through the end of the first quarter of 2026, Cedars Healthcare Center reported no incidents involving fines or penalties.
The nation’s older adult population continues to rise as the younger demographic decreases, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older increased 13%, while those younger than 18 dropped by 1.7%. Over the last 100 years, the older adult population in the U.S. has climbed significantly, growing from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.
A 2021 research brief reported that nearly half of people age 65 and up—about 28 million—could need long-term services and supports. That same study anticipates that more than a third of older adults may at some point require care in a nursing home.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
