TOWN OF SCOTTSVILLE: Juneteenth Holiday Is Saturday The 19th

Juneteenth

Town of Scottsville issued the following announcement on Jun. 16.

Juneteenth helps us celebrate the end of slavery in the United States, and the freedom of all Americans.

Scottsville offices are open and staff working as normal on Friday, and the Juneteenth holiday is Saturday the 19th. Why the 19th? On June 19th, 1865, U.S. Army troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to help liberate enslaved Americans. For Scottsville, liberation had come sooner, on March 6th, 1865.
