County of Nelson issued the following announcement on Aug. 24
Motorists should expect delays due to Geotechnical work on Route 653 in Nelson County. Route 653 (Wilson Rd) will be temporarily closed from Route 650 (Oak Ridge Rd) to Route 655 (Variety Mills Rd). Road closure is scheduled to begin September 13, 2021 and is planned until September 24, 2021.
The Department of Transportation will provide adequate signs for the closure and detour of this portion of Route 653 (Wilson Rd), Route 650 (Oak Ridge Rd) to Route 56 (James River Rd) to Route 647 (Findlay Mountain Rd) to Route 722 (Williamstown Rd) to Route 655 (Variety Mills Rd) back to Route 653 Wilson Rd.
