City Encourages Safe Halloween Observances

14

City of Staunton issued the following announcement on Oct. 17

While the City does not play an official role in determining Halloween observances, City officials strongly encourage residents and visitors to follow guidance provided by the Virginia Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control in light of the continued public health risks associated with COVID-19 while celebrating Halloween and throughout the fall season.

VDH's guidance to the public invites people to choose lower-risk activities such as decorating pumpkins outside, visiting a pumpkin patch or orchard, watching a scary movie at home, hosting or participating in a virtual costume contest, or decorating Halloween cookies. If trick-or-treating, VDH recommends staying outside and bringing a mask and hand sanitizer for use when appropriate. When handing out candy to trick-or-treaters, VDH suggests staying at least six feet from the treat bowl, encouraging large groups to approach one at a time, and considering the use of a mask, especially if unvaccinated.

Local Halloween and fall-themed events and activities can be found on Staunton Downtown Development Association's Facebook page and website. For additional information about Staunton’s attractions, lodging, dining, shopping and events, see www.VisitStaunton.com.

Please stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, have tested positive in the last 10 days, or have been in contact with someone who tested positive in the past 14 days.

Have a safe and fun Halloween and fall season!
