Regional Transit Vision for the Charlottesville Area and Surveys
The Regional Transit Vision for the Charlottesville Area is a collaborative effort to evaluate transit service in Charlottesville and the surrounding region and to establish a clear long-term vision for efficient, equitable and effective transit service in the region.
This project is being led by the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission. It is funded in part by the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transit, with matching funds provided by the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County. It supports the work of the Regional Transit Partnership (RTP), which strives to improve communication and collaboration between the three transit providers that operate in the Charlottesville Metro Area.
This effort is being assisted by some of the leading public transit experts in the country, but the ultimate success of the plan depends on robust and meaningful public engagement. All community members are encouraged to regularly visit the project website to find information about upcoming events and to learn about all the ways that you can share your thoughts and ideas. Learn more about the Regional Transit Vision for the Charlottesville Area and provide your feedback on ways to improve transit service in each study area.
We want your feedback! There are two surveys, the Transit Vision Survey #1 has eight questions to gather public opinion on what might make transit a better option for you, your family, your colleagues, or neighbors. The Transit Vision Map Survey allows you to place markers and add comments on the map to give us your input on transit needs –Please complete both if possible:

Applications Are Open For The Virginia Eviction Reduction Pilot Planning Grant
The Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission (TJPDC) is administering a Virginia Eviction Reduction Pilot Planning Grant (VERP) for Albemarle and Charlottesville. The planning grant process is nearing an end and will position the TJPDC to be able to apply for an implementation grant from the Department of Housing and Community Development once application and program guidelines are released.
The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) was directed to design and implement the pilot. The purpose of this pilot program is to create a local/regional coordinated systems approach to effectively prevent evictions. The systems approach will include creating a collective impact model where organizations that serve as a safety-net within the community collaborate to ensure households have early access to resources to stabilize their housing situations.
The DHCD’s presentation about this pilot program along with applicant requirements is now available online.
Hazard Mitigation Survey
The Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission (TJPDC) works with officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM), and local emergency managers to develop and maintain a regional Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan.
Take the 2021 Hazard Mitigation Plan 5-Year Update Survey today and tell us your thoughts to help shape the final outcomes of this project. Your feedback is extremely valuable, and it should take less than a few minutes to complete.
These plans are updated every 5-years and provide details on how our communities can think ahead and prepare for natural disasters before they strike. The hazard mitigation efforts are supported by the Hazard Mitigation Working Group.
