Daily Progress Readers’ Choice gets makeover

21

Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Jan. 19

Since the early 2000’s, The Daily Progress has polled its readership on what businesses make this area fabulous. The publication is, and always has been, a tribute to local businesses and the families that make them happen.

According to Eric Mayberry, President and Director of Local Sales and Marketing at The Daily Progress, 2022 is gearing up to be the best Readers’ Choice contest to date.

“We have initiated several big changes for this year,” Mayberry said. “And those changes are geared toward making the contest more competitive among participating businesses, while at the same time opening up the nominating and voting to more people than ever.”

Annually, the contest already has tens of thousands of votes, in around 140 categories.

One change, Mayberry explained, is that only the top 5 of businesses nominated per category will advance to the voting ballot.

“In previous years, each nominated business advanced to the ballot,” Mayberry said. “That will now change. This change alone will make the contest more competitive. Winning in Readers’ Choice has always made a certain impact, and rightfully so. But that impact will only be greater for businesses winning in 2022.”

New is also that voters will be able to vote by sending a text.

“It just means that voting just got so much easier,” Mayberry said. “By setting up Text-to-Vote, we are able to open up this contest to so many more people.”

Voters are allowed to text one vote per day, per category.

Mayberry said that many other changes are yet to be announced, but he’s willing to announce one more.

“For the first time, we are also publishing a Nominations Guide. In it, we will list all the categories of Readers’ Choice, and we will profile businesses who have won Readers’ Choice categories in the past. This publication, which will publish on February 13, will initiate the kick-off to an exciting Readers’ Choice spring.”
