REC Prepares for Weekend Winter Storm: 1/27/2022

30

Culpeper Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Jan. 28

Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) is prepared for a potential winter storm that could affect parts of the Cooperative’s 22-county service territory late Friday afternoon into Saturday morning.

Forecasts could change, but at this point the potential exists for several inches of wet snow, with the Eastern portion of the state expected to receive the highest snowfall totals. Gusty winds of up to 45 mph are also possible early Saturday, increasing the potential for damage from downed trees and limbs to the electric grid.

REC crews and contractors are ready to roll in the event of outages. REC has plenty of materials such as poles, transformers and fuses on hand in the event that they are needed.

“We urge member-owners to take steps now to prepare for the potential weekend weather that could lead to weather-related power outages,” said Casey Hollins, Managing Director – Communications and Public Relations for REC. “Make sure you have flashlights and fresh batteries, and be sure to charge all electronics such as cell phones. Now is also a good time to consider backup sources of power.”
