Piedmont Virginia Community College issued the following announcement on Feb. 22
Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) continues its annual tradition of bringing Richmond Ballet, the state ballet of Virginia, to its Charlottesville audience on Wednesday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m., in the Main Stage Theatre in the V. Earl Dickinson Building. This twenty-fourth year of partnership between the PVCC Fine Arts and Performance division and Richmond Ballet features a full-length program of four diverse works which highlight the versatility, dynamic energy and intense emotion for which the company is known.
The performance will feature the following:
- A quick burst of classical ballet, “father of American ballet” George Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante captivates audiences from start to finish with its sparkling swiftness and precise execution.
- From Ben Stevenson, who is known for creating splendor on stage, Three Preludes explores the evolution of a couple’s love in an intimate ballet setting.
- In an excerpt from English-Canadian choreographer Colin Connor’s Vestiges, two dancers display their undeniable connection, reminiscent of a moth to a flame.
- Richmond Ballet Associate Artistic Director Ma Cong’s Glare displays the choreographer’s undeniably emotive signature movement set to an extraordinary neo-soul/classical collaboration by musicians David McAlmont and Michael Nyman.
Reserved seating ticket prices are $23 for adults and $17 for seniors and students.
