PVCC Fine Arts and Performance to Host Eighth Annual Chocolate Chow Down Opening Reception for Student Exhibition

6

The Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) 2021-2022 Fine Arts and Performance season continues Friday, April 15, with a chocolate-loaded reception opening the latest exhibition of works by PVCC student artists, followed by a screening of the 2021 epic science fiction film “Dune.” Events are free and will take place in the V. Earl Dickinson Building on the main campus in Charlottesville.

The Annual Student Exhibition and Eighth Annual Chocolate Chow Down will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., in the PVCC North and South Galleries. This exhibition features a curated selection of works by student artists from the latest academic year along with copious amounts of chocolate to sample while viewing the art. Artistic media include painting, drawing, ceramics, graphic design, digital media, sculpture and more. The exhibition runs through September 9.

The opening also features the premiere of the Art Club’s first ever collaborative coloring book. The book has fun, original designs by club members incorporating PVCC’s panther mascot, Pouncer, somewhere on the page. Attendees are invited to stop by the “color-in” tables during the event and color their own design.

The final Free Movie Friday of the season will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Stage Theatre. The movie “Dune” follows the brilliant hero figure Paul Atreides in the distant future as he confronts malevolent forces to ensure the future of his people. Based on the 1965 best-selling novel by American writer Frank Herbert, this big-screen adaptation has received numerous award and nominations. The film is rated PG-13 for sequences of strong violence, some disturbing images and suggestive material.
