PVCC Announces Dr. Jean Runyon as Sixth President

 Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is proud to announce the selection of its sixth president, Dr. Jean Runyon. The official hiring announcement from Virginia Community College System (VCCS) Chancellor Glenn DuBois was shared earlier this afternoon. Dr. Runyon succeeds Dr. Frank Friedman, who announced his retirement last fall. Dr. Runyon will officially begin in her new role in July 2022.

 “We are excited to welcome Dr. Runyon to PVCC and believe she will be able to build upon the success and great potential that exists here, not just at the College but throughout the community,” PVCC College Board Chair Lola Richardson stated. “PVCC’s success can be felt across our service region today. With the experience she brings and by working with the College’s dedicated staff and faculty, Dr. Runyon is sure to help take PVCC to the next level.”

 

About Dr. Runyon

Dr. Jean Runyon brings over 21 years of higher education experience to PVCC,  and currently serves as campus vice president of Front Range Community College in Colorado, where she is the top executive of the Larimer campus, a role she’s held since 2015. From 2007 to 2015, she worked at Anne Arundel Community College, holding successive leadership roles in the College’s Learning Advancement and the Virtual Campus. Prior to this, in 2000, she became the director of the Innovative Teaching Center at the College of Southern Maryland where she was also a professor. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Bloomsburg University, her master’s degree from George Washington University and her doctorate from North Central University.

PVCC will work in partnership with Dr. Runyon to serve the educational needs of this region. The College will host an initial press conference in July and will announce a series of press and other events during the fall to introduce Dr. Runyon to the community.
