56

Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is proud to announce that the Albemarle County Rotary Club Foundation has received the 16th Annual Chancellor’s Award for Leadership in Philanthropy. The Rotary Club Foundation was nominated for the award by PVCC.

More than two dozen individuals, families and businesses from around Virginia have earned the 2022 Chancellor’s Award for Leadership in Philanthropy. The awards were presented at a luncheon ceremony in Richmond in April. The annual event, hosted by the Virginia Foundation for Community College Education (VFCCE), honors leading philanthropists from each of Virginia’s 23 community colleges as well as the statewide foundation. Recipients are nominated for their outstanding commitment to the growth and development of Virginia’s community colleges and their respective foundations.

This year’s class of distinguished philanthropy leaders has collectively contributed $10 million dollars to Virginia’s Community Colleges.

“PVCC is thrilled that the Albemarle County Rotary Club Foundation is a recipient of the 2022 Chancellor’s Award for Leadership in Philanthropy,” shared PVCC President Frank Friedman. “The Albemarle County Rotary Club Foundation has been a stalwart contributor to the PVCC Educational Foundation for more than 35 years. Our College and our local community are stronger because of the generations of club members who have tirelessly and enthusiastically demonstrated a commitment to service above self. The Foundation has invested significantly in PVCC through initiatives including the Albemarle Rotary Scholarship, KidsCollege and the PVCC Annual Fund. We are grateful for their belief in PVCC’s mission and for the many ways in which their generosity continues to benefit our students and our community.”

Among the numerous VIPs on hand for the luncheon were Chancellor Glenn DuBois, State Senator Ghazala Hashmi, Anne Holton, former Virginia Secretary of Education and professor of Education Policy at George Mason University, and Dr. Stewart Roberson, past chair of the VFCCE. Dr. Bill Hazel, Jr., former secretary of Health and Human Resources, was the event’s keynote speaker.
