CPD Responds to Incident at Charlottesville High School

At approximately 2:00, Charlottesville Police Department (CPD) responded to a report of a possible firearm on Charlottesville High School (CHS) grounds.

While students were asked to remain in 5th period with classroom doors locked, CPD conducted a search of the grounds. After speaking with a student, reviewing video footage, and examining the perimeter of the school (including McIntire Park), CPD and school administrators issued an all-clear at approximately 2:40pm. No weapons have been found; students and faculty remain safe.

CHS will follow a normal schedule and normal procedures tomorrow. School counselors and mental health professionals will be available as needed.

In response to CPD’s efforts regarding the incident, Mr. Rashaad Pitt, Principal of CHS said, “We appreciate the fast work of the Charlottesville Police Department in investigating and giving us guidance to resume normal operations this afternoon."
