Nelson County Schools: Nelson County High School welcomed most students in 2023-24 school year

Nelson County High School had the highest enrollment among Nelson County schools, welcoming 485 students during the 2023-24 school year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed at the time, 54.4% of them were male, and 45.6% were female.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 72% of Nelson County High School's total enrollment.

Among the four schools in Nelson County, Tye River Elementary School ranked second in enrollment numbers with 359 students, while Nelson Middle School welcomed 359 students to be ranked third in the 2023-24 school year.

Nelson County High School is part of Nelson County Public Schools District, which roughly covers schools within Nelson County, with its main office in Lovingston.

In the previous school year, Nelson County High School also had the highest number of students among Nelson County schools.

According to Public School Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14 in the 2023-24 school year, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools.
