Attackman Truitt Sunderland scored a career-high 10 points to lead No. 12 Virginia to a 17-6 victory over Drexel on April 24, capping the Cavaliers’ regular season at Klöckner Stadium. The game followed Virginia’s Senior Day ceremony, which honored Sunderland and ten other soon-to-be graduates.
Sunderland’s performance included four goals and six assists, making him the second Cavalier this season to record a double-digit point total in a single game. Brendan Millon previously reached this mark during Virginia’s win over Dartmouth in March. With his latest contribution, Sunderland now has 41 goals and 17 assists across twelve games this season.
Other notable performances came from Joey Terenzi and Ryan Duenkel, who each recorded hat tricks. Goaltender Jake Marek entered the game during the second period and finished with twelve saves for Virginia.
The Cavaliers improved their all-time record against Drexel to nineteen wins and one loss, extending their winning streak over the Dragons to thirteen consecutive games. The win also snapped a two-game losing streak for Virginia.
With the regular season concluded, Virginia will await results from upcoming Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) matchups that will determine seeding for next weekend’s ACC Tournament. The conference tournament is scheduled for May 1 and May 3 at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, with both semifinals and championship matches set to air live on ACC Network.
