The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams continued their competition at the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Outdoor Championships at Cardinal Track Stadium in Louisville, Ky. on May 15, with the men’s team maintaining its lead in the standings.
After two days of events, the Virginia men have accumulated 64 points to remain in first place, while the women’s team is currently sixth with 26 points. The meet saw standout performances from Brett Gardner and Nathan Mountain, who secured a one-two finish for Virginia in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase. Gardner won with a time of 8:35.94, followed by Mountain at 8:40.86. This marks Virginia’s second one-two finish of these championships after Justin Wachtel and Will Anthony finished first and second in Thursday’s men’s 10,000 meters.
In heptathlon action, Elsa Spoor set a personal record with 5,472 points to finish third overall for Virginia and Cassie Callis scored seventh place with a total of 5,247 points. In other field events, Caleb Holman achieved a season best jump of 7.54 meters to take sixth place in the men’s long jump and earn second-team All-ACC honors; Grace Smith also placed sixth in the women’s long jump with her season-best mark of 6.24 meters.
On the track, Peter Djan qualified for finals in both the men’s 110-meter hurdles—posting a personal best time—and the men’s 100-meter dash with his season-best performance. Maya Rollins advanced to finals in the women’s hurdles event as well.
The top three finishers in each individual event are named first-team All-ACC while those placing fourth through sixth receive second-team honors along with members of top relay teams.
Competition will continue Saturday (May 16) at Cardinal Track Stadium beginning at 2 p.m., as both teams look to build on their results from day two.
