Virginia track and field teams conclude regular season at Liberty Twilight Qualifier

The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams concluded their regular season competition at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier in Lynchburg, Va. on May 6.

The meet provided an opportunity for athletes to improve marks ahead of post-season events. Several Cavaliers achieved personal bests and top program performances during the event.

Jeremiah Nubbe finished third in the men’s discus with a season-best throw of 57.57 meters, which ranks No. 7 all-time in program history. In the women’s pole vault, Madison Townsend cleared a personal best of 4.02 meters to place third, also ranking her No. 7 all-time for Virginia.

Grace Smith won the women’s long jump with a leap of six meters, while Janae Profit took first place in the women’s discus with a mark of 52.43 meters. Brooke Lumpkin led the women’s shot put at 16.13 meters for first place, and Samantha Romano was runner-up in the pole vault after clearing a season-best height of 4.17 meters.

On the track, Anders Felts won the men’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.84 seconds as teammate Gage Gose finished just behind him in second place at 51.86 seconds; Brooke’Lyn Drakeford captured victory in the women’s race with a time of one minute and .41 seconds.

The Cavaliers will next compete at the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships scheduled from May 14 to May 16 at Cardinal Track Stadium in Louisville.
