The Virginia women’s tennis team won 4-0 against Washington on May 3 at the Virginia Tennis Facility at the Boar’s Head Resort, advancing to the Sweet Sixteen of the 2026 NCAA Championship.

The victory means Virginia will host a Super Regional match on Saturday, May 9. The opponent and time are yet to be determined. The Cavaliers secured their win by taking the doubles point after victories from Vivian Yang and Melodie Collard on court one, and Isabelle Lacy with Kaitlyn Rolls on court three. In singles play, Martina Genis Salas earned a win on court six, followed by Collard’s victory on five. Lacy clinched the match for Virginia with her performance on court four.

Head coach Sara O’Leary said, “First of all, thank all our fans for coming out yesterday and today. It makes a huge, huge difference. It’s a reward to be able to play at home for finishing ranked in the top eight. This is what we hope for and what we want — for our fans to come out and enjoy the tennis and be out there with us. So first, just want to thank all the fans for coming out.” O’Leary also said she was proud of her team’s composure during doubles: “I am just really proud of the toughness and resolve of our team… Their composure was so good out there. They stayed so together… I am really proud of them. I think that really set the tone going into singles.” She concluded, “So excited to get the win today. We’ll enjoy it today and go back to work tomorrow.”

According to match notes provided by Virginia Athletics, this marks only their second meeting with Washington in program history; Collard improved her spring record while Lacy increased her season wins as well.

Looking ahead, Virginia will prepare for its next matchup in hopes of continuing its run in this year’s NCAA Championship.
