When the COVID-19 pandemic transitioned most students from in-person classrooms to remote learning through computer screens, Tyler Bridges was a first grader.
His mother, Rebecca Bridges, became concerned that the transition would be difficult for them both. With her working a demanding job, and Tyler sitting in front of a computer screen for hours, Rebecca was concerned for Tyler's academic development.
"It was clear that public school online wasn’t working and I couldn’t be there for it," she said. "Homeschool could drastically cut down on wasted time and make Tyler’s schedule more manageable for me.”
After consulting friends, Rebecca discovered Acellus Power Homeschool. Though she was hesitant at first, having no previous experience with homeschooling, Rebecca decided to enroll Tyler.
"Luckily, I didn’t have to put anything together. Power Homeschool felt like it was ready right out of the box," she said.
Power Homeschool is a program offering aid to parents who wish to homeschool their students. Parents have the option of up to seven classes from a variety of courses designed for grades pre-K to 12th grade.
Students are also able to complete their coursework at their own pace with the supervision of their parents or guardians. The program is also standard-based and provides a fully online learning experience.
For Tyler, the program provided the opportunity to be self-sufficient while his mom was working. Through guided videos and practice problems, Tyler went from learning first-grade course material in August to learning third-grade lessons by the following May.
"Not only was Tyler making all A's, his vocabulary and handwriting are vastly improving too," Rebecca said. "It can be a temporary solution but it's amazing for all grades and we intend to keep using it.”
For parents like Rebecca Bridges who are concerned about maintaining progress reports and meeting state requirements, Power Homeschool says it provides detailed progress reports and standardized testing to check students' progress.
