Piedmont Virginia Community College issued the following announcement on Oct. 15

Piedmont Virginia Community College announces the largest and most ambitious fundraising campaign in its history. The public phase of Pathways: Campaign For a Brighter Future was launched Thursday evening, October 14, as PVCC President Frank Friedman and the Board of Directors of the PVCC Educational Foundation shared that $10.2 million has already been raised through the generous donations of community supporters.

Named “Pathways” to reflect the College’s belief that education represents the path to economic security and a thriving citizenry, the campaign will expand the power of a PVCC education to transform lives and strengthen the economic and social vitality of the region.

“As the community’s college, we seek to change the lives of our students, meet the workforce development needs of our region and enhance the quality of life for everyone in Central Virginia,” said PVCC President Friedman. “The Pathways campaign will enable PVCC to achieve this vision. I am incredibly proud and inspired by the growing philanthropic support PVCC has received from friends and supporters. In the last 20 years, nearly every new initiative at PVCC has been made possible with the help and support of the PVCC Educational Foundation. I look forward to working together with our friends, alumni, and supporters to ensure the College has the resources necessary to connect our students and community with their full potential.”

The campaign, now entering its public phase after a one year silent phase, is anchored by three priorities:

  • Creating state-of-the-art facilities to promote access to programs, program quality and student success.
  • Expanding workforce development programs to raise the skill levels and increase job prospects for individuals in our community that will lead them to financial security.
  • Increasing student access and success to ensure education is within reach of all students and to provide the support needed to achieve their goals.
In launching the campaign at the V. Earl Dickinson Building on campus, President Friedman announced the commitment of a generous lead gift from community members Cynthia and Jim Stultz toward the new 45,000 sq. ft. advanced technology and student success center. The building will include facilities for rapidly growing technology programs aligned with high-demand occupations. Blended with a comprehensive one-stop center for student services, the new space will become the heart of the campus. In recognition of the gift, the new Center will be named in honor of Mrs. Stultz’s father, Woodrow W. Bolick, a founding member of the PVCC College Board.

Mrs. Stultz, who currently serves as the president of the PVCC Educational Foundation shared, “Jim and I are deeply committed to PVCC. Like many of the students attending PVCC today, Jim began his educational journey as a community college student while working two part-time jobs.  My dad, Woody, served on the founding board of PVCC and is credited with being the person who gave the college its name. We are delighted to be able to honor him by investing in this important campaign.

“In addition to his involvement at PVCC,” Stultz continued, “my dad spent over 60 years as an upstanding and energetic member of the Charlottesville community. Jim and I see this same determination and hard work in the students that we meet at PVCC. We hope our gift can inspire others to recognize that an investment in PVCC is an investment in the community and it is one that will pay dividends for all of us.”
