Piedmont Virginia Community College issued the following announcement on Jan. 19
Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) students will return to campus for in-person learning, Monday, January 24. In early January, PVCC President Frank Friedman announced that the college would begin the spring semester with two weeks of online learning in an effort to help keep everyone in the PVCC community safe during a period of uptick in Covid/Omicron variant cases.
Beginning January 24, all classes originally scheduled to be held in person will resume according to schedule and online anytime and online scheduled time classes will continue to be online. All classes with start dates after January 24 will be in person if originally scheduled that way.
The current PVCC policy requiring everyone to wear a face cover (mask) when indoors in any PVCC owned or leased facility remains in effect.
“We look forward to welcoming our students back to campus. It is imperative that everyone adhere to the mask policy. Without a mask requirement, we could not return to in-person learning due to the highly contagious nature of the Omicron variant. PVCC faculty and staff have been asked to enforce the mask policy with no exceptions,” shared Friedman.
The school reports that out of 4,500 students and 500 faculty and staff, fewer than 100 Covid cases will have been reported during the two-week, all online period. That is a reported positivity rate of only 2%, which is outstanding. PVCC will continue to monitor the rate of Covid infections among faculty, staff and students. If a significant outbreak is identified, the College will take the necessary actions to protect the health of its community.
President Freidman continues to encourage all students, faculty and staff to take appropriate precautions to stay safe, including getting vaccinations and boosters.
