Blues artist Gaye Adegbalola,
Blues artist Gaye Adegbalola, former frontwoman for Saffire-The Uppity Blues Women, a worldwide cult favorite, performed some of her own music and shared her and her mother's stories of civil rights activism Tuesday. Her mother, Gladys P. Todd, is the namesake for Germanna's early college program that provides scholarships, books, mentors, tutoring and laptops to first-generation students from low-income families.Mrs. Todd, an iconic local educator, organized lunch- counter sit-ins in downtown Fredericksburg during Jim Crow times and a young Gaye picketed segregated businesses.Adegbalola was later named a Virginia state teacher of the year at James Monroe High School.It was a Student Activities Black History Month event.
